Description
Balm of Gilead
The sticky sweet, intoxicating fragrant amber resin of the cottonwood buds make a wonderful topical medicine. Packed with antimicrobial properties and anti-oxidants, this resin contains a chemical compound called Salicin which is an anti-inflammatory also found in willow trees, and is the origin of aspirin. Mixed with oils and beeswax, this resin can be made into a salve oddly called “Balm of Gilead”.
